Welcome to Dr Faith.net and her funny advice manual for mistresses!

How did your recent show come about?

I had been working in publishing and I was fascinated by all of the self-help books that seemed to take a very simple idea and expand into a 300-page book, then lecture series, seminars and merchandise. So that was the idea I started with a parody of a self-help seminar.

I was also at the point in my life as a woman where I was choosing not to have children. I loved being a doting aunt or godmother but I loved doing creative projects where as Virginia Woolf so aptly put it we need

a room of our own. And time by ourselves. So I thought what do I want to do with this found time? I had always loved using music in my shows so I set my sights on doing a musical.

How did you come to work with Ellen Mandel, aka Mistress Ethel?

I asked a comedian friend Bob Greenberg if he knew of a pianist/composer and he put me in touch with Ellen, a gifted composer and pianist, who lives near me in the East Village. When I met with her, I must admit I was a bit intimidated from what I had heard about her. I knew Ellen had gone to Harvard and had worked with some of the great comedy groups and theater companies in New York. I shouldn't have worried, she was immediately open and inviting. Her husband Michael Lydon, a musician and writer, is also a delight to spend time with so going over to their place to work on the show has always been a joy.

I booked some dates for Valentine's Day 2000 at the West Village's beloved Cornelia Street Cafe Downstairs to make myself write a first draft. We had such fun working together we've been updating and fine-tuning ever since.

What is Badgirl2 Productions?

Lisa's shows are produced by Badgirl2 Productions, our theatrical production (and now new media) company operating out of the East Village in New York City. We are totally thrilled to get this, our first new media venture, up and running. The spirit and joy of Dr Faith's dedication to connecting women around the country through live events full of laughter set off a light bulb in our collective heads. Why not take what we already knew about storytelling from our years producing crowd-pleasing plays and comedy, and try to provide a home for that same spirit on the web? It sure helped that Badgirl2 is made-up of with a whole bunch of smart, interesting, and accomplished women who could steer us in the right direction.
