New York Observer recommends Dr. Faith Mistress Show

The other woman speaks--in An Evening with Dr. Faith: Her Advice Manual for Mistresses, a one-woman cabaret show by Lisa Faith Phillips. “I’m the Martha Stewart of mistresses!” she told us over the phone, invoking images that should never be called upon.

Why seven and a half rules? “We have a bonus rule it you’re good,” purred Ms. Phillips, who is part of the recent, plucky “brainy chicks who strip” phenomenon: While double majoring in French and economics at Wellesley, she worked as a stripper so she could afford a Master’s in Economics at the London School of Economics. (Hence, the segment in tonight’s shows, “Stripping Your Way to an M.B.A.”)

These days, Ms. Phillips is an executive at a major publishing house. “I had an affair with someone at an office,” she said “and there were things about it that were exciting and romantic, but there were also very negative things. So I started doing it as a parody self-help seminar for the mistress in all of us. I don’t advocate people having affairs, but ‘till death so us part’ made a lot more sense when life expectancy was age 35, now we live to be 90.”
